Optimize the fuel trims (A/F), set appropriate timing advance (vehicle to vehicle difference), raise fuel cut, raise speed limiter, etc. Basically a reprogram of the cars ECU. It makes a HUGE difference in the car, even without any mods. As soon as you start modding heavily you'll NEED some sort of tunning; either tuning the stock ECU or adding and aftermarket ECU.

Hope that helps.

Most open intakes on an evo are very loud. I only have the BR filter (stock MAF pipe) and it's even very loud.

Just take off the lid on the stock airbox, and everything will get louder, including the BOV.

My gf had no idea I purchased the K&N but when she got in she already knew my car sounded a bit different. Overall I am happy with it

Any idea how much hp gain with just a drop in?
LOL!

On the DD dyno at dyno4mance I gained 5.5WHP so it does make a difference.

I got the K&N drop in and took the airbox cover off then wrapped wire around the top like a square so the airbox brackets will hold the filter in. You can hear the turbo much better and the BOV. I've had it like this for 3 months now with no problems. If you really like the turbo sound and wanna hear your stock BOV its a good mod with the drop in filter.

I've got a K&N too
Injen's supposedly does 16whp...but it still needs serious tuning, but like we've all said on here, the Evo comes out of the box needing REALLY serious tuning, the A/F stock sucks, and also gives us all our crappy gas mileage, stupid Mitsu and their "fudge factor"

Dude, you stole my idea! hehehe, j/k. I found something from Blitz where it'll hold the drop in filter w/o the wires. http://www.blitz-na.com/Blitz_Intake_InCover.htm

I decided to go this route so i don't need to change out an aftermarket air filter everytime i go to dealer for warranty or free maintenance stuff.

AEM is a full intake system, pipe, cone filter, and all the hardware. It replaces the airbox and plastic pipe that comes stock on the Evo.

A K&N drop in filter is simply a higher flowing cotton gauze filter that replaces the paper one that comes stock on the Evo.

K&N also has a complete intake system similar to the AEM, but that's not what they were talking about on this thread.
