just installed a K&N drop in filter

After installing it I notice the throttle response is much better. I couldnt hear the BOV but the engine does sound like its breathing better and when the turbo kicks you can hear the difference when it spools up. Like they say every car is different, my Evo definately feels faster and you could really feel it once the turbo kicks in. My gf had no idea I purchased the K&N but when she got in she already knew my car sounded a bit different. Overall I am happy with it

Any idea how much hp gain with just a drop in?

Not very much.. 5hp would be a good guess. I don't think much power is made from intakes on the evo without some tuning to compensate.

I've got a K&N too

I know on Buschur's website they claimed a 4 hp increase for his open-air K&N filter kit. So the drop in version is probably 4 or less.

Still waiting for my car to hit 3k miles before doing anything to it, but drop in K&N will be the first mod.

Do you need tuning if you get a K&N filter?

I don't believe you need it. But if you do it will help a lot.

The car really needs tuning straight from the factory.. but I would definately want to tune it after an intake change. Like was said above, it's not necessary, but it helps a lot.
