Not sure about performance gains for taking off the stock lid on the airbox. In fact, it might hurt performance to take off the stock lid because the engine will suck in more hot air. I took my lid off for the bling factor so the BOV is louder. However, i didn't notice any performance losses by taking off the stock lid according to my butt dyno.

Without the airbox cover, there was less low end torque, and I had to rev a bit more just to launch the car. Definitelly some power loss without the cover, but you can hear the bov whoosh sound though. I just got a used gfb and have it set to vent a little and so far its good enough to satisfy my rice needs.

GFB = Go Fast Bits dual vent BOV

It allows you to partially vent to atm and partially recirculate.

The filter does get dirty fast. I have the K&N drop in too. I want to take off the cover but my ECU is tuned to it. So I would start to run to lean My friend has the ARC intake. Pretty cool.

I agree, the filter will get dirty very fast, not really worth it. After driving it for a day I notice a slight power loss in higher rpm. Not sure if its sucking in too much air or what but somehow it doesnt have as much torque. I decided to put it back on and just wait for a intake with tune. BTW is was fun hearing the stock BOV
