I have no experience with Mobil 1 filters. But I agree, I'll never put a Fram in any car I own again. My last car, a 98 AWD TSi, developed a serious case of phantom knock. In researching, I read a lot of bad stuff about the Fram's. I decided to do a test.

I changed my oil, put in a Fram filter, went out and datalogged a run. Definitely phantom knock as timing was being pulled.
I went back, changed the oil again, and installed an OEM filter from the dealer and repeated the run. No more phantom knock. Since then, I've only used filters from the dealer.

Hope this helps.

Stick with the OEM filter. I paid $4.75 today for mine. I think list is $5.50 or so. They're inexpensive and seem to work the best.

Some dealers even give a discount if you buy more than 3 filters. I paid around $5 for mine the other day with a new drain plug washer.

Do not use the orange FRAM. However the FRAM X2 is actually one of the best filters you can buy

There is absolutely no need to buy a filter that's over $6. There are good filters for relatively few $: Purolator PureOne, WIX, STP, etc. The K&N air filters aren't even very good at filtering. You're paying for the K&N name and there's no way I would be happy with K&N's level of filtration when it comes to an oil filter.

I personally use WIX filters on all cars I regularly change the oil on and I get them for roughly $5 after tax.

The Mobil 1 filter is a superior filter and I have used many different filters over the years on my work trucks that have logged over 500,000 miles and the M1 filter keeps the oil cleaner longer and reduces oil comsumption versus any Fram, valvoline,Motorcraft or any $5 or less filter. Think about if the Dealer sells it for $5 it is probably no more than a $3 filter....Now that being said is the dealer filter a bad filter no but regular oil isn't either but Mitsu puts synthetic oil in at the factory. So why use a plain old filter when better filters are out there..
