How to remove the Evo A-Pillar?

Hi all,

I'm going to replace the stock tweeters, and I'd like to remove the A-Pillars to see how much room is in the stock location. I'm new to stereo installs, and I've never removed an a-pillar before.

Probably easy, but I need to know how to do it without breaking anything. Detailed instructions appreciated!

Thanks!!

zlancer,

Thanks for the reply... Do I need to remove the rubber door stripping first, or should I just get a grip on the opposite side at the top and gently pull?

Thanks!

just pull. don't need to remove the stripping first. Just make sure the stripping isn't under the plastic when you put it back on.

on that note, does anyone know where the stock crossovers are? How are the tweeters hooked up?

I pulled off the door panel and the A-Pillar today. The best way I found to get a grip on the A-Pillar is to insert a flat head screwdriver in the top section near the windshield. Gently pry it up unti you can get your fingers under the plastic. From there, it should pop off fairly easily.

The tweeter is screwed into the metal underneath, and it appears there is plenty of room in the stock location for a larger tweeter. I'll experiment with placement, but first try will go to the stock tweeter location.

No luck locating the stock crossovers, but I wasn't really looking for them either.

Anyone know where they are? Might as well remove them.

Thanks to everyone who posted...

I have a question. Is the 04 evo pillar the same as an 04 lancer pillar. I cant find a pillar with out the speaker cut out. I have an rs so there is no speaker. the only way to do it is with the lancer pillar.
