Help with Swift Spec R spring install

I am working on installing a set of Swift Spec R springs on an Evo IX. I am having a problem with getting the top hat to seat properly on the top of the spring. Here are a few pics:

The separation starts to occur when I am torquing down the bolt on top of the top hat. What am I doing wrong? Is this separation normal and the spring properly seats under load (i.e., when I let the car down)?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

You have to align the top spring perch first. Once it is seated right, then your tighten down the top hat. The spring should sit in the perch perfectly. Do not drive or install until then.

If you can't get it to do it right. Take them to a local shop and have them help you out.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the help! I took off the other strut assembly (passenger side) and noticed that there are 3 holes in the top hat and the center hole is aligned with the hole at the bottom of the strut assembly. So I took the driver side strut assembly apart, lined up the holes and it seems to do the trick. Is there a preferred way of lining up these two holes?

The middle hole in the perch hat should be aligned with the hole on the strut assembly.

Fronts are done! Taking a break to eat and will do the rears. I think the rears will be easier.
