SWAY BAR INSTALL? Need help
I printed out how to remove the rear stablizer. I am pretty sure its the sway bar. Also I read something about torqueing the nuts with the car down and somnebody sitting in the driver seat?? Can somebody please clarify
I have changed sway bars in my Eclipse GST and I have glanced underneath the back my EVO and saw the sway bar. I'm pretty sure its the same as I didn't see anything special so the install of the rear sway bar should be easy. It took me about 15 mins on my eclipse. The sway bar is held to the body with two brackets and at each end of the sway is the sway bar linkage.
1. Make sure you have the rear of the car jacked up (both wheels off the ground). It might be easier to remove the wheels depending on the sway bar linkage location
2. Because your car is jacked in the back the sway bar should move freely and you should be able to undo the sway bar linkage on each side without one side pulling the other side.
3. Now the only thing holding the sway bar in place is the brackets. Undo the bolts from the brackets that is holding the sway bars and remove the bar.
4. Installation is just the reverse.
I can't really think of anything else...installing the rear sway bar is very easy so you should have no problems. As for torqueing (se?) the nuts with the car down, I'm not sure about that. I never did that with my eclipse.

When I changed my rear sway bar I torqued the bolts down while it was in the air. I don't see what the difference would be if the car were on the ground, because you are still torqueing the bolts down at the same amount of pressure.
By the way are you planning on changing the front sway bar?

When installing a sway bar your supposed to always wait till the car is on the ground before torquing the end-links.
If you do it while the car is on jacks the wheels along with the rest of the suspension is hanging much lower than if its on the ground. So if you tighten everything down, when you drop the car theres extra binding put on the sway bar its self, adversly affecting the handling.

Question on the Hotchkis rear swaybar install. I got new rubber 'bushings' with the kit, but they are solid around. Am I supposed to cut them so I can slide them around the bar and put them in the holder?
The stocker black rubber 'bushings' are too small.... Help.

"a few of our customers who bought this have cut theirs and then installed it. However others have used WD40 and pushed them on. Either one works its just personal preference."
