The needle on my boost gauge fell off!!!

I have had this Autometer carbon fiber boost gauge for awhile now and all of the sudden the needle is laying inside the glass of the gauge face....
I don't know how to take the gauge apart to get inside there so I was wondering if anyone else knew how.
Thanks for any info.

Autometer is a quality product.. and they stand behind it, if you call them (or the shop you bought it from) they should be able to swap it or replace it..

I've used autometer gauges for over 20 years.. Although I don't know about the CF or Cobolt series gauges, I have to assume their all the "Inexpensive" versions of the gauges.. I generally use the SportComp, or ProComp (mechanicals are Generally liquid filled) and I don't have any problems.. Defective products do happen... But don't buy into the "Autometer is crap" BS.. I think it started because most of their products are made in the USA and the import guys generally preferred the Japanese made gauges for the import cars..

You could always do the "Store Swap" buy the same gauge at your local speed shop.. wait a week, return the busted one and say it fell off.. Problem solved..

Practicing this method of "store swap" does nothing but ultimately financially hurt the owners of that store. That is why several stores do not have a "return policy".
You should honestly contact Autometer about the problem and deal with the manufacturer directly. Who knows, perhaps they will even reward you some how by offering more of their products to be on your vehicle free of charge.

On a digital boost gauge, it's hard to see how fast boost can "climb". With the reference of a "sweeping needle", it makes that easier.

Also, on a couple occasions of experiencing digital readouts (including boost gauges), I've seen a sensor "glitch" happen where it would read 0.00 one second, and a split second later, it would go to 13.12, and then back to 0.05.....12V glitch? Readout glitch? I don't know....something glitch. =)

There are "hybrid" meters available that use an electric sensor and sending unit and transmit that to an "analog" style readout. The Power Enterprise boost gauge/controller is a fine example of one.

I have never heard of any other gauge company having so many problems than Autometer. There gauges are inacurate and I have plenty of first hand experience with their gauges failing. If you guys don't want to listen to me that is your prerogative, but don't knock me for have MANY bad experiences with their product. If you are serious about tunning it is in MY opinion you buy a QUALITY electronic gauge like Defi, Greddy, HKS,or Apex'i.

Yes, I would have to agree. As with may products out there, you do "pay for what you get". Autometer isn't exactly "high dollar" material. Perhaps they still maintain a "good record" in production quality because of the numbers of gauges they make. (Say 10 in 1000 go bad, it's only 1 out of 100...so I suppose that's alright... =) )

Funny that you should mention that particular string of gauges from Japan.....it is my opinion that they are all manufactured by the same factory in Japan. ...again, only my opinion. =) To sneak in a quick plug here, Power Enterprise has a 60mm gauge and controller all in one. =)

Opinion? It's a FACT that Nippon-Seiki makes all the big names gauges, and 90% of the OEM (JDM, whatever your fancy)... and have you ever take a good look at some of the newer AC Auotechnic gauges? If I knew how to attach pics... I would be clear as day.

As for whoever commented on paying $180+ for a gauge... Save it (your money that is)... that's the HIGH-SIDE of TOP DOLLAR gauges... A Defi D-Gauge is around $115 from most vendors (good luck finding one)... and I can't remember where I heard it, but Power Enterprises is supposed to have a really trick Boost Gauge/Controller on the market... If only I could find a link...

Peace
