One of the nicest things is being able to set a "base" speed for example 50 mph (speed changed to protect the innocent). Then you can accelerate above that and drive along, pass slower folks, etc. If you release the gas, you'll go back down to that base speed and stay there smoothly. It's very handy for stealthy highway cruising through slower traffic.
Have I said enough times that I wish I had done this to my Evo YEARS AGO?!? You'll love it!

I am trying to make sure I don't end up doing it 'years' down the road... I haven't even hit 4 weeks of evo-life yet... I'm sure it will get done, just did a trip today I wish I had it on for.
Well just bought mine today. will likely post my pictures or a DIY thread on this as well.. Thanks for the motivation franc. Likely will have this on inside 60 days of having my Evo.
Good luck on the install! BTW, our Evos have two clutch switches. I've been trying to find out if the switch at the top of the pedal is a normally closed ground but my continuity tester is not working. If it is, you may be able to splice this switch in series with the brake negative on the cruise unit (violet wire). I haven't checked with Rostra, but if the clutch switch also interrupts ground when you start to press in the pedal, it should also cancel the cruise if it's wired into the violet line. The regular lancer doesn't seem to have a switch at the top of the travel, or at least Rostra doesn't think so.
This would just add a convenient "cancel" feature to the cruise. I've just been turning the cruise off to cancel but then you need to reset the speed. You can also tap the brake to cancel, but that's not too "stealthy"!
As always, post any questions you may have.

If you want it to look less goofy, you can get a different switch from Rostra. They even have an RF switch you can mount right on the steering wheel but I didn't feel the extra $70 is worth it. You can also adjust the angle and location of the lever.
But as goofy as it may look, it does make the car really great for long trips. It makes the Evo even more incredible- room for 5, groceries, able to drive 500 mile days, and will still smoke plenty of high performance "super cars". I've had my car for 6 years now and still find myself looking back as I'm walking away from her!

That's really awesome, good job with the successful
mod, but I find it hilarious that it will hit boost when trying to keep the constant speed, I'd laugh forever to watch an evo race back and forth up a hill

Yeah, it was a little annoying at first but like I said, I figured out my way around it. The next time I have the battery out I'll experiment with the settings and post the results. I'm going on a 300 mile each way trip this weekend and am looking forward to it!
Started the install tonight, wasn't bad at all... and I'd say I may end up with 4hrs in it (about 1.5-1.75 hrs in it now), taking my time here. My battery is relocated to the rear, as well as custom intake tubing, so space was of no issue here.
franc, did you have to use the whole bracket for the brake switch? or no? Just curious how you did that, as that and wiring is about all I have left to complete.
Thanks, and I'll be sure to take pictures of it as well when my wife returns home with the camera this weekend.

No, I didn't use the brake pedal switch included with the kit. I just tapped into the brake switch wiring according to the color codes in the book. I think the hot wire is the striped one, anyway that goes to the red cruise wire with the fuse on it. The violet wire goes to the other wire on the brake pedal. The wires for tapping into the brake circuit are under the dash at the top of the pedal. If you pull out your coin box and look in past the fuses you should see the switch clearly.
Well Got the cruise installed and working as well.Did things a little different, simply due to having an evo with the battery relocated to the trunk. This allowed me much more 'room' to house the control module in the engine bay (Mine is mounted on the inside/front corner of the driver side strut tower.) I have easy access to the DIP switches from this location as well (likely shouldn't need it I hope), I ran what you were told of 3/7/10 on, and the rest off.I wired in the brake switch, and I have a call into them, awaiting to be returned regarding the clutch switch. I'll post any information I gather here as well.
I mounted the control switch just behind and below the light switch lever. Coming out at a relatively straight angle. I set mine up so that the LED light was hidden by the left spoke of the steering wheel when in normal driving position. This way when it is on at night, I don't have a bright light in my face. Driven probably 50-70 miles with it over the weekend and today to work, seems to function fine, w/o issue. may like to wire the clutch in with it if able, but if not... it isn't a huge deal.Well worth the price, and that is my assessment within a couple days... I'm sure as time goes on it'll seem more and more valuable.
I disagree with Lancershop's statement of something like "if you can install a car stereo, you can install this." It may be true, depending on the level of installer... I definitely wouldn't trust a local car audio installer though to install it, a bit more involved, tracing wires, running wires, wires hard to get to, etc. I think I spent as much time figuring out HOW to get to a wire as I did anything else. I broke my install up over a couple days as I had family in from out of town, and other items to tend to as well. All and all I'd guess I also have 4-6hrs in the install.Someday I may post pictures... We'll see.

Congrats on the installation! That probably brings the total number of Evo 8s and 9s in Ohio with cruise to 2!
I do agree with your comment on the degree of difficulty; I'd guess that a good shop could do it but they'll never take the same amount of care and detail that you'd take with your own car.
