Request: How to powder coat a valve cover
Last week I called three shops on my city and asked about powdercoating my valve cover. I told all of them it´s made of magnesium. Two of them asked me if it was metal.
One of them asked if it was plastic. I´m not kidding. Feel my pain!
I´ve got no clue on what´s needed for proper powder coating a valve cover. Chemical stripping? Cleaning with glass beads or aluminum oxide? Is some kind of primer needed?
Please, educate me on this subject!

i powder coat a lot of stuff on the side. here is what i did for my valve cover. blasted it with black coal glass, washed it out real good. Then i put it in my oven to " out gas " it, then i took it out and sprayed it with my power gun, then put it back in the oven for 20 mins. Done.

Do *NOT* under any circumstances glass bead the valve cover. Even if you tape all of the holes shut and take every precaution....the glass bead will still get in the baffles and you'll never get it all out. It can cause serious engine damage.
Use a chemical to strip the paint off.
Here's a great article on how to powder coat at home: Powder Coating in the Home Shop
