powder coating stock rims question

I was talking to a guy that would powder coat my enkei rims on a base evo ix. And he asked me if they were already powder coated from factory? and i didn't really know. He thinks that they are but i told him i would find out. He said if they are then he would have to have them stripped which would cost $100 extra. If anybody have an answer to this i would appreciate it. Thanks

I work in the powder coating business and I talked to our metalologist, less then 60 minutes in a cure oven will not effect the forged aluminum siginificantly, it will weaken alittle(and i mean a little) but not to the point where it will break on you or even be noticeable weaker

this is BS. factory forged magnesium marchesini motorcycle wheels are powdercoated. this doesnt change anything. the curing process in powdercoating only reaches about 400 degrees or less, and usually for less than 20 minutes. go for it.

true. the wheels should be stripped either way. he was probably just asking, because old powder is much more time consuming to remove than paint. $100 seems about right....depending on how much they want to charge for the coating. most places charge 85-120 per wheel, but that should include stripping. if it doesnt, you might shop for another coater.
