how to utilize top part of stock air box

Well I've pretty much been running the Buschur intake filter and MAS pipe from day one. At first I attempted MalibuJak's stealth air box mod, and just ended up making a mess with my dremel, but I can't say that it wasn't fun, just that things just didn't line up correctly with the position that the BR mas pipe put their filter in. So I've been thinking of what the hell I could do with the top portion of the air box that connects to the snorkel. I have left the snorke in place just because I figured it has to do some good with routing cooler air towards the general direction of the filter. But that just wasn't good enough, so last night me and one of my buddy's roomates just started after it. First he took a long piece of aluminum strap, for lack of better teminology, with holes in it and made a bend, then another and one for the back of the airbox lid, then we drilled 5 holes in the airbox lid to bolt it to the metal strap and then 3 holes where the lid and snorkel connect. The pictures are self explanitory and it's like a 30 minute jobbie at most and that's if you paint it all pretty. I used a total of eight 10/24 x 3/4" Socket Cap Screws from Lowes, the nice black ones with the allen bolt patern, some lock washers and nuts that I had laying around for securing the screws from underneath the lid and some flat cut #10 washers, that I painted black for securing the screws to the top of the aluminum strap. Hope you guys like it, I'm sure many will think it's ghetto but I did my best to make it nice. I must admit that in my thinking function usually takes priority to form, but I really tried to tidy things up

I like it. IMO it can't hurt to have to have directed right onto the air filter .

Edit: I gotta say the use of allen bolt was a sharp touch as well. Looks more professional, and not near as McGuyverd as normal nuts and bolts would!

thank you, has anyone else tried this yet? oh and as a side note instead of having a 90 degree angle on the front bend you should try and bend it to contour the air box lid as close a possible for the purpose of clearance of the factory heat shielding under the hood

Thumbs up Good Idea!

I have been looking for an answer to the problem I ran into this weekend with a rain storm and my Buschur intake. It took in some moisture and I could tell the car was not running right. I was able to clear it out in my garage by letting the car run. However, I was thinking about going back to the stock air box and using a K&N drop it. This will allow me to keep it.
Thanks!

rain and intake

I am not sure why you would think the rain storm messup your car, if anything the stock system acts like a ram effect and water has no option but to go into you filter, the open elements should pull air in better and unless you are talking about running in high water and submerging the airfilter i have never seen an open element under the hood have a problem, now on the corvette C5 one system had the filter right infront of the radiator and it was boxed in if you ran into high water it would trap the water and submerge your cone filter people had vapor lock on a couple of engines over on the Corvette form. i run a supercharger on my vette and it gets air from the opposite side of the radiator, a small amount of water can enter and will not cause a problem its when large droplets or water flows into a cyclinder and locks it up. water is not compressible. the evo unit sits up high and in the middle of an open area not sure how water could build up around it and cause enought to go in. it is an oil saturated material. oil and water resist each other, just my views but do what you feel is safe. seems more like water on the electrical system if you were able to run it awhile and it dried out. you would have burnt up any water in an cyclinder with just 1 or 2 secs of revolutions idle is 800 RMP .
