MAF Cleaning advice?

Anyone have an idea or method on cleaning the MAF on an VIII? I dont want to damage the sensor or hurt the plastic with a solvent. Mines not horribly dirty but it needs a cleaning. I searched for a how to on this but came up empty handed, so hopefully this will yeild some results for me and anyone else needing to do this.

You can clean the maf, you just have to be very careful not to touch the resistor. I used CRC MAF Cleaner and a Q-tip. Cleaned all the grime around and on the sensor and steered clear of the resistor. You must make sure that the maf is completely dry prior plugging it back up.

Thank you, im sure this info will be helpful to plenty of people So you just apply the MAF cleaner to the Q tip then and wipe away staying away from the small diode/ resistor? But you can clean the bigger bar sensor thing thats closer to the honeycomb mesh with said cleaner and Q tip?

Brake cleaner or degreaser in a sprayer and compressed air is what I use.

We know, We know, cause that's what it says on the bottle right???

Been spraying CRC MAF cleaner through the MAF nearly every 3k for 140k miles now. Just be smart and don't spray full force with the straw in at the resistor as stated above and you'll never have an issue ever

I'm sorry I gave to quick a response

We have Karmann style Mafs which if you read the back of the CRC maf cleaner it says not to use on this style of Maf. Now I do use it on my xb which has a hotwire type maf which this can is made for. Can you use it on the evo maf, sure alot of people do, but there must be a reason the can says not to. You can read a little here. http://www.socalevo.net/forum/index.php?topic=108330.40 Yes I know the can says maf cleaner but not all mafs are the same

just use the CRC cleaner, you will be fine. Don't touch the inside at all with anything, spray it with the cleaner and it dries very fast and you're done. If you **** it up, switch to SD

Coincidentally, I just picked up a can of the CRC stuff before I read the instructions.

It says not to use it on Mitsubishi, but if you can find out why and work around it then it might be safe to use it. I don't have an issue with my MAF right now, so I'm not going to bother. What's that saying? "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." ?
