Starter Bolt Needs Tapping HELP!

Hey guys,

Have a Evo 8 was trying to replace the starter when I realized one of the bolts had shred off from previous owner. With one of the 2 bolts out I tried preying it for over 45mins without anything budging. Looks like it will need to be tapped out.

Not a task id normally wanna do myself so I called around and all the shops dont wanna deal with it either... I know I'll need to take the down pipe off at least and try to drill through the bolt but is there any tips or tricks on how to get this off?

Anyone else ever have this problem?

Appreciate any help I can get thanks!

since we cant see what you see....
Is there some portion sticking out?
Have you tried penetrating lube yet?
Weld a nut onto it and stick a socket on it.

Iv'e gotten off the bolt in yellow but there is a second bolt you cant see in the blue circle.

As you can see from the other picture this bolt is the threaded one so wont just slide off....

Cut head off with grinder.
Put starter in a vise.
You visegrips.

If not trash starter and find new bolt

Helicoil thread inserts they have them at fastenal. I'm assuming the bolt is spinning and not coming out correct? If that's the case spin it with an impact gun while prying on the starter with a pry bar. If that doesn't do it you can just drill the head of the bolt with a 3/8 drill bit, use a 3/16" pilot drill to keep it centered.

It might be hard getting a grinder in there to cut off the head. Drilling might be easier

If that Bolt ( I assume its the one coming from the Bell housing side ) is turning easy but doesnt move out, there is a high chance that a Nut is used to hide an stripped tread inside the starter. ( in addition an longer bolt, non oem was used...)

You can reach the position behind the starter by hand to check it...
If there is an hex nut... you will have to find an small wall socket to counter this nut to remove the bolt completely.
