Help with Defi control unit 2 install

Hi, I just installed the Defi control unit 2 and BF boost gauge follow the instruction from http://www.evomoto.com/tech_info.php?techID=11 , somehow the gauge light didn't come on when I turned the ignition on. It's only on if I turn the light switch on. As you know the BF gauge is hard to see in the day time, so I prefer the light turns on all the time. Anyone know how, please help. Thank you.

I also have the bf gauges and the control unit. I hooked up the 12v light wire to the light on the ashtray. The lights on the guages are bright when the car lights are off, and when they car lights are switched on, the bf gauges dimmer slightly. This dimmer can be adjusted to be brighter or dimmer, but only when the car lights come on. I am a little puzzled about your post though. Do the gauges light up without the car lights on? If I can be of any other help, let me know.

That's odd! Ok lets go through the wiring up of the control unit. You have four wires:

Red - Constant 12v (for the memory of peak/warning/playbacks)
Orange - 12v acc.
White - 12v for lights
Black - ground

I robbed (spliced) into wires under my center console. I spliced the orange wire into the 12v lead into the lighter plug. I spliced the white into the 12v lead for the light under the ashtray. I spliced the ground into the ground wire for the lighter plug as well. The red wire was a little more tricky. I searched around under the dash until I found a constant 12v red wire. **Do not splice into any wires in the yellow loom. All yellow loom is for air bag wiring** This is what I did for mine and had no problems. My brother has the same setup, but wired his orange white wires to the same 12v source. He doesn't care about the dimming function of the gauges though. How is yours wired up? If I can be of any other help, let me know.

What I did is exactly like this http://www.evomoto.com/tech_info.php?techID=11 , I just called the guy at evomoto, he said if I want the light of the gauge on all the time, just hook the white (illumination) wire to the radio wire (ignition) that the orange wire hook to. Then the gauge light will be on when my ignition is on. I think that will work.

I have the BF gauges and had the same problem. Easy fix, Check to see if you gauges are plug into right port behind the control unit. For the BF series, it should be plug to meter output #2 instead of #1. Hope this help.

kevo, you're the man....lot of thanks to you for helping me out. I just went out to the car and switch the plug, mine was plugged to the meter output #1. If I don't get this simple help from you, this weekend I have to take out the radio and run the wire again. Again, thanks man...

I don't know where another instal is but you need to tap 4 different wires.

Red - Constant 12v (for the memory of peak/warning/playbacks)- There is a red wire in the radio harness.
Orange - 12v acc.- I forget which one
White - 12v for lights- Brown wire for the cig. lighter
Black - ground- Any ground will work. There is one around the cig lighter too

I don't know which ones of these are correct. I did mine a while ago. Use a test light before you tap any wires to make sure. If I get a chance tomorrow I will take it apart and double check some of the wire taps.Hopefully someone els will chime in and help you.

So are these connections correct?

red --> radio harness red wire
orange --> cigarette lighter brown wire
white --> light on ashtray red wire
(or white --> tied to orange --> cigarette lighter brown wire if wanted gauges light always on)
black --> any ground or cigarette lighter black wire

appreciate your comments and help.

Update... I installed mine just like the one above, however, this makes the gauges come on when they key is in ACC mode. This is HIGLY annoying with an oil pressure gauge as the warning light and buzzer will just stay on (as there is no oil pressure w/the engine off). Did anyone tap somewhere so that the gauges fire up when the key is in the ON/RUN position?
