What about dropping the entire front subframe onto a dolly...then doing the R&R work on the floor? This looks like the way I'm going to tackle it. We'll have to evacuate the AC and remove coolant hoses, but with a hoist and a Snap On AC charging system, I don't see why this wouldn't be an acceptible alternative? Not putting down your install...it's excellent and thorough...just suggesting an alternative. I'll let you know how it works

Didn't work bad, but wasn't a short cut. I think that would be the same method I'd use to pull the engine. lining up the steering rack splines into the steering column was probably the trickiest part.

I don't even remember why I uninstalled the lower IC pipe...maybe because I wanted to laugh at how small it was. What type of clutch did you install?

Exedy twin disc. This clutch is awesome. The pedal pressure is less the stock and it makes my transmisson shift like butter now. It drives exactly like the stock clutch, but the notchiness of shifting is completely gone. The engagement point is also a little lower. It make some pretty cool rattling sounds too. I am very happy with it.

I am never launching my car. I don't have the time to do that. I sure in the hell wouldn't want someone else doing it either. I was just looking at those engine hangers on the head tonight. I was thinking they had to leave those on there huh. We will need those again huh. Dammit man!When/if the time comes, I will need this write up. Good work you all.

Yeah I got, and yes that rear mount took me like 2 hours and I undid all the bolts you are talking about in the PM. It was a major hangup and really pissed me off. I would def. think that a Rally team would change that design up for quick clutch and tranny swaps. The next hardest part of reinstall was when i broke that circlip. Finding another one of those was a real PITA!
BTW thanks for saying this is the best thread of 2004! Of all the races I have done from a stop I have never done any crazy lauches and still won most of them. I like my car too much and it is worth too much still to be abusing it like that. I don't even launch it off the line at an AutoX....all for fun anyways.

i'm getting my exedy twin in my '03 in today, but they already put in tranny and removed it again and put back in. they said slave cylinder not releasing properly. they say that ss line not sealing properly and are trying again w/ stock line. anyone with hints?

The throwout bearing takes a little patience. Have them look at the service manual and they should be able to replace it from the clutch. The SS line will seal properly when you use the copper washers provided or reuse the stock ones and torque it down to specifiactions. The throwout bearing procedure is somewhat complicated, best of luck!
