thats exactly what I did. It was MUCH easier than taking the whole intake manifold and everything off the car.

i replaced my alternator not too long ago, it was a pain. mine came out through the bottom of my evo 8. took of tire, rotors, calipers, and loosened the axle and took off from the transfer case side in order for it too be able to come out. i had a bar under the car so took that off as well. good luck for next evo owner doing this. if you have a lift it would be easier.

+1.... I also took out the axle ... loosened the exhaust at the test pipe just enough to wiggle it and inch or so.... removed the bolt from the passenger side motor mount and raised the motor up about 3 inches... be sure to remove your battery so the motor has room to tilt... my battery is right next to uicp so I had to.... I have a K brace under mine that had to be removed too.

After that you should be able to give birth to an 8lbs alternator out the bottom of the car.... make sure you buy a good alternator too..... I got a cheap one that made that battery light flicker at idle... lesson learned...

Same here man. That is the "easiest" way to get that SOB off.
