I used to make them all the time at a machine shop I worked at.... theading the rod my self worked ok, but they always seem to break after about 3 or 4 installs. I think buying the rod threaded is the way to go if you are going to DIY...... I ended up buying two from the dealer and have had no problems at all.... I think they must heatreat them or something.....

So what did you guys do when the threaded rod broke? lol I just had one break. I cant tell if it the threads are left stuck in there are still contacting the tensioner arm, since I havent taken the zip ties off the cam gears yet. I have the mount off, but not the bracket off that bolts to the block... Which as far as I can tell is what it threads in to. Has anyone been successful in removing this with out taking everything apart?

Here is my rendition..I got the rod from ACE hardware and threaded it....I feel like I can shorten it up a little to reduce the risk of it sheering off.

Just picked one of these rods up for $6.87 from my local Fastenal. If it works well I may weld a few up and sell some on the cheap.
