For all the time and money you'd spend you might as well buy an Evo

Short answer: no. It's not worth the trouble, time, money, and headache.

Yes, the answer is that it will be cheaper, easier, and better to just upgrade to an Evo.

^^ Word.

Now if you were talking about swapping over a 4G63T from a 1g DSM into a Starion, by all means do it. Problem is the shape or the lack of a driveshaft tunnel on the FWD Lancers, as well as the modifications needed to fit the complete drivetrain of an Evo into the lancer. Suspension geometry will be your biggest headache as the FWD Lancers do not share subframes or pickup points at all with the Evo's. It's a little more than an Si/Type-R conversion...

If you do go ahead with this project, as I've done some heady projects in the past ( 2003 Altezza Beams engine into an AE86 for example), post up plenty of pics and document your work as much as possible so that others can follow in your footsteps and maybe even help you correct some mistakes before they cause any damage to your setup.

Or just buy a fix-er-upper Evo and enjoy the hours and hours of work to be done on one of those if budget is your main concern for doing this conversion in the first place.

Good luck.
