apr front splitter

apr front splitter

anybody have a how to on installing the apr front splitter. Just got mine in the mail but if i remember correctly someone suggested buying more nuts and washers because apr didnt supply enough. Just want to make sure i do it right so it doesnt snap off on highway. Thanks

Sorry, I don't have any pictures but I can try and explain it. To do this, you need to remove the front bumper off the car. Align the bumper over the holes on the splitter. Secure with hardware. Mark where you want to install the rods and drill holes for them and then install. Before installing the bumper back on, you need to install the 2 spacers they provided underneath the center beam. This is so your splitter sits even and have something to screw to. Put the bumper back on and secure the bottom side of the splitter with the remaining 2 screws. That's about it.

Sorry, I forgot to add... when I first did this, I did have some alignment and fitment issues. The hole patterns didn't align with my bumper holes so I had to re-drill new holes near the ones they did. I had to do about half of them, mainly on one side (about 5 holes). The fitment issue I had was once the splitter is nice and secure to the bumper, the bumper really has to room for adjusting...esp if you're slightly off and trying to secure the screw under the wheel well....so make sure you tight all hardware the same. Over tightening one side will cause the bumper/splitter to bend differently which may cause fitment issues. If that's not the case and you still have this problem, you may find the best way to fix this is to have the 2 corner holes slotted (parallel to the straight side of the splitter). This gives you a little slack when adjust your bumper to fit back on. Any probs, let me know.

Are the front support rods absolutely needed? I'd rather not drill into the bumper nor have the rods there.

Yes...if you don't use the support rods, the splitter can literally rip your lip off.

Also, I suggest using Lock-Tite on the support rods because I've had several occasions in which the nuts would come loose.

Here's what happens if you use the APR Support rods. They break off and this is the aftermath. I just did this about a month ago and finally everything's fixed. But the lip busted right off because the weight of the splitter. Babs is right, go with different rods

and by the way that happened to me going only 40 mph, so you can imagine if a rod breaks off on the highway

When I had an APR splitter on my old Evo, I just used over sized washers. I had it to 160mph numerous times with no issues with it flying off. I just had it attach on the bumper cover with the included rods with all the included hardware (an the oversized washers). If you want to attach the splitter the best way, find rods that will be long enough to attach to the crash bar.

Oh snap! What if you secure it to intercooler? Or fab support beams to the crash bar? I'll be honest. I really don't like the look of the rods attaching it to the front bumper.

Well I didn't really mean to say get different support rods from my post...the APR one work just fine. I've had my splitter on for close to a year now and there have been no problems. Lock-Tite goes a long way and as long as you don't drastically angle the splitter, it should rip anything off if everything is fastened down right.

I personally think it looks good, but then again everybody thinks this about their own cars. Sorry about the ginormous pic, too lazy to resize.
