How is anyone bending the tabs back on the washer? It's impossible to get a tool in there. I'm giving up on bending them because I don't see a point in it. The inner tie rod isn't going to loosen from alignments, the ball joint will spin before the tie rod will loosen. I also tightened to 80ft/lbs and used blue loctite.

just get a new one, they are cheap enough and it will give you piece of mind. You don't want it opening and getting dirt inside.

And the play was still there so I changed the inner tie rod, the play is now gone. There is hardly any chance that the play comes because of the inner tie rod 'un-threading itself' (there is a lock washer), what generally happens is that the ball joint of the inner tie rod gets worn out such that it moves too much. And trying to wiggle the tire in 3-9 is the way to go (someone may need to hold the stir wheel very firm if the play is very minor).

Front end shaking (when braking or above a certain speed?) might be other things, I don't know your car but sway bar bushings, or a bad cv axle perhaps. In the case of this mitsu, the whole car was shaking above a certain speed due to a bad cv axle. Get to a speed when the problem arises and switch in neutral position to dismiss problems with transmission. A bad bearing will not shake the whole car but becomes noisy, loud at low speed, higher pitch at higher speeds but can be felt intensely in your feet.
What are the symptoms of a bad inner tie rod? I'm trying to figure out if I need to replace wheel bearings or if its any of the tie rods. I am experiencing a "shudder or vibration" sound coming from the front wheels(not a high pitched whine sound), kind of hard to hear but can feel in the feet. Is this wheel bearing or tie rods? I have not been able to find any play in the wheels from 12-6 or 3-9.

I did this today and ended up getting the metal strap off the boot from the top behind the intake manifold with a pipe wrench. I wasnt able to get the metal strap off completely, what I did was push it off of the boot toward the rack so it wasnt squeezing the boot down. Then with the tie rod end off the tie rod pulled the boot off.

I then used the same pipe wrench to crimp the lock washer.

I also used a hose clamp to tighten the boot down to the rack. Which made it much easier to work on. A regular 3/8 ratchet had plenty of room to move around down there.

Sorry my engine bay is absolutely disgusting.. That's getting ready to change when I get the new engine in.

P. S. I hope my pics load. Doing this from my phone. If not I'll fix it tomorrow.
P.S.S. let me know if those pics work for everyone.

Keep an eye on that boot. Worm drive clamps don't always keep them on. They don't get as tight as the original boot clamps that are crimped in place.

I'm pretty sure I've been riding the zip tie train on my inner tie rods for about 3 years now. FYI

Only reason I didn't go zip tie was I wasn't confident in my being able to cinch it up good enough.
I will check it next oil change though just in case.
