mileage gauge change

I'm swapping my stock speedo to a different one, so is there any way to change the mileage upwards, because the new one has 60k less on the ODO than the car really has? It kinda seems stupid, but I wan't it to match with the service records. Thanks for someone who can help me.

I would not recommend doing this. Im pretty sure changing the odometer or messing with it in any way is illegal. Even if it is moving it up to the correct mileage. I would leave it alone and if u ever do sell the car inform them about it being off. That's the main reason they went to digital odometers in newer cars is to keep people from "rolling the clock back". Even tho u want it to move forward im pretty sure its still illegal.

Its not a good idea. It will lessen the value of your vehicle dramatically if there is a variation in mileage vs service records.

Im pretty sure the mileage is held in the computer and just displayed on the cluster lcd. When you put another one in it should show the true mileage.

You need to fill out a mileage discrepancy form for this to be legal. This is the case in the states, I see your in Europe so I'm not sure what their rules are there.

Not true, the mileage is stored on the guage cluster itself.

Mileage is not stored on the ECU. Don't do this, it will just cause you headaches if you ever plan to sell.

If you do not plan to sell the car, knock yourserlf out and might as well swap the odo every 2 weeks for one with LEDs for every 100 rpm and maybe even another that glows in the light!

j/k

Theres no way to change the odo reading. But its not illegal. You just have to update your car's records at the DMV. It may make it harder to sell because people will get scared when they see the mileage suddenly drop by a lot.

If theres nothing wrong with the original cluster then just keep it for when you sel the car.

I beg to differ, yes you can change digital odo you just need the right tools and know how to do it. Yes the odo readings are stored on both the odometer itself and ecu. Dealers have special codes that will be able to pull the readings out of the ecu, to make sure no one has messed with the odometer readings.

In US its illegal to change the odo readings, BUT seeing that you are in europe then go for it the DMV laws there are faaaaar from strict, i know cause i am european myself

What happens everytime you flash your ecu then? Or if you disconnect battery power (afaik only the srs ecu has battery backup). Not saying I don't believe you I'm just wondering how they do it.

Didn't know it was illegal in the US. My friend swapped clusters and renewed his registration with the new, lower mileage values in a Canadian DMV pretty easily. They just made a note in the vehicle's history report that the gauge cluster was swapped. It was as easy as changing colors.

Yes it is illegal big time, if you temper with the car milage you can get up to 5yrs in jail and $100,000 in fines. When you reflash your ecu it will not effect the milage because you are only changing the fuel/spark/timing and other things that effect the performance. There is a different ROM in the ECU that deals with the milage recording.
