Products to remove black paint off the rims

Currently I have painted black painted rims and its chipping off. I am planning to paint my rims with duplicolor next weekend. My question is how do I remove old black paint so I can put new paint on it. I read on couple of forums about aircraft paint remover, what do you guys think?? or if you know any other product that will work better. And also would it remove OEM paint too or not?. Any help would be appreciated.

The stock coating is much much stronger than any coat that you can paint on.

I'd be weary of the aircraft stripper, its going to start to take off the layers of the factory coat and once you do that you're going to be spending days getting all of it off for a smooth surface. My best recommendation is to sand down the chipped areas until you can get the spots smoothed. get it back to 800-1000 grit sanding scratches before you re-coat them.

and aircraft stripper is not really safe to work with. I've had it eat through an industrial shop hose just from the hose sitting in the diluted rinsewater.

I agree, degrease, sand it, feather it, prime it, prep with wax/grease remover and repaint.

I agree with the above. I was going to use this on an old set of wheels but decided against it after seeing this stuff remove the red powder coat off a fire extinguisher. Within minutes it bubbled it up and it looked like a red rubber balloon.

i've seen this stuff strip powder coating off motor cycle wheels in MINUTES, and i used to to strip the coat off my honda b series valve cover. had it clean in UNDER 20 min. Also, word to the wise never get it on bare skin it burns like hell.

Word to the wise... Check the last post date before grave-digging a 5 month old thread.

I'm sure he has stripped and painted his wheels by now.
