Angry Exhaust help?

I just installed a turbo-back GReddy comp Ti-C. Everything seems fine in lower gear, boosting and cruising. When in 3rd and up, accelerating from low RPM, there is a lag (or rev hang) at about 3,500-4000 - boost meter vibrates at 18psi (normally just pegs then drops) and then revs pull through after a moment.

Could this be caused by re-using the stock downpipe doughnut? The system didn't come with a new gasket and I just left the original on the o2 housing. It might be my paranoia, but I also smell exhaust all the time.

Any advice would be great. I already have an OEM part on order to reinstall, just in case that is the issue.

the donut is a gasket not a performance part so no worries there....offcourse there is lag, its a turbo car. Dont try going WOT on the third gear from 2000 rpm and expect to take off like a bullet. None of this has to do with your exhaust. It happens on all turbo cars.

If you smell exhaust then you probably have a leak somewhere along the piping. Is your car tuned?

You're catless now right? That should explain your exhaust smell. I got so annoyed with the smell of 91 oct but the e85 syrup smells yummy now. Oh yeah, you should get a tune with the TBE. It will make a world of difference with driveability. That lag will not be so pronounced, although you're bound to get it if you're trying to go WOT from such low rpm's.

I'm catless with a tune. I understand the lag for high gear but it seems like all of the sudden it stops right when RPM should be getting faster, like a loss of pressure. I don't notice any boost drop on my gauge.

Thanks. I know that there is the initial lag. My peak boost starts at 3.5, right then there is a surge up and then a stall, and then it picks back up again. This never happened before the exhaust, no matter what gear I was in.

those donuts are reusable and the smell from a cat-LESS system just smells.

Now if your car isnt running right/tuned right. the Smell could make your Eyes Itch. Id check for Leaks first. get underneath the car and with some that you TRUST have them stand on the brake and feather in the clutch in Gear to simulate LOAD on the motor then the leak should be easier to find...

cheers and BE CAREFUL

oh ya if you get ran over its not my fault

Thanks for all the advice. English Racing confirmed it as the clutch, too much power and a few slips finally did her in. Got an ACT HD!
