Quick update! The heat shield survived its first track day last weekend! It was pretty hot out, somewhere around 100*f and it didn't melt, bend or anything like that (unlike my bumper that caught fire lol but that's another story). Again no scientific nonsense but simply putting my hand on either side, I could feel an enormous temperature difference!

Another Idea I just removed my Intercooler Sprayer and there is a Giant hole I'm gonna use dryer ducting to get some fresh air from the bumper.

Thats a really cool idea. Do you tink enclosing the box would have any advantage?

Jay at Boosted Tuning did a test a while back with the stock piece and show a difference in cooler air with it on. I will see if I can find that post.

Found it

Wow awesome link, thanks for that! I had no idea it would make that much difference. I am very curious now to see what the gains would be when combined with a heat shield!

I couldn't tell you for sure. I'm guessing it would help out a bit but if you can seal this shield against the bonnet (ie. use the foam/weather stripping along the top as suggested) I don't think the gains would be that significant...if any. The bonnet in essence can act like a heat soak and with the amount of air cooling that vs the top of a heat shield, it may infact be cooler not to have it enclosed. But what do I know lol

Thanks fellow brotherins! Im actually thinking of making another with stock snorkel/ induction pipe thingy. Should I try and enclose it or leave it exposed from the top?

I would probably (because I'm lazy lol) leave the top open. I'm not sure you'd see a huge temp difference with it open vs closed
