Allllrighty so I decided to finally plumb the stock intake-y routy thing to work with this shield. I may have had a few brewskies when I made this hence the materials used lol.
So I was looking around my garage too see what I could make a little duct out of. It only needed to be 4 inches wide so it touched the shield and long enough to wrap around snorkely thing. I ended up finding the plastic lining of a paint roller tray, cut a 16X4" strip out of it with a stanley knife and wrapped it around the snorkel. I used a heat gun to help mold it to the correct shape and then wrapped it in...wait for it.....Gold heat wrap! Lol yes my engine bay is quite bright now.
Then I traced on the heat shield where the scoop touched and cut that area out with a scroll saw.
I'm not sure if that plastic is strong enough to handle high temps (hence the need for the heat wrap) so we will see. I'm hoping the heat wrap will deflect enough heat + the amount of air flowing through it should help. I got the engine up to 220-230*F last night and it held just fine so time will tell lol.

This is something that I have done to all my performance-y type cars. The one on my old DSM had a 1/4" thick piece of rubber with silver reflectant on both sides. I swear that helped especially with a 50 trim lol.

Not sure if anyone is interested but here's a post I made a while back comparing temps with and without shielding.

You know I've thought about doing this. But after a 20min session at Road Atlanta the frame rail under the air filter was cool to the touch and so was the intake/filter. It can't hurt though

does anyone know where to get a intake cover...i have a cold air intake and its in the open close to my driver side front tire. Im scared it might suck up water. or would it be better to get a short ram?
