Aluminum rear tow hook installation

well, here is one way to install an aftermarket tow hook for those interested. I had to get rid of the stock loop becuase it was interfeering with the rear diffiused.

$15 from ebay

that will work fine for looks, but I wouldn't push or pull the car by that hook. will likely rip / bend something bad

it is connected to the same material as the stock mouting location for all intent and purpose.

If you plan on tracking your car, where they require you to have a legitimate tow hook... This will not pass inspection.

for horizontal forces, this is stronger than the stock loop which is only welded to the outer skin of the body material by an area about 1.25". these 4 bolts go through both layers of the skin and are exactly right next to the original welding point. if the car was so stuck where pulling this would damage the body, it would certainly damage the stock loop also.

Having had my IX towed by the stock loop and pulled out of gravel by a winch, I'm pretty sure the stock part does its job just fine.

Steel or go home, really.
