hi there

sorry for such a dumb question, but where exactly is the starter motor located, and is it difficult to replace?

cheers

Its on the front bottom of the engine... Beside the turbo... Depending on how modified your car is it should be easy... 2 14mm bolts one on the tranny side one on the engine side... Then the 12mm nut for the battery cable and the clip for the signal wire and it comes right out.

Its really easy to change out the starter motor. If you need to replace it you are better off saving the money and doing the job yourself.

If you need any help with anything shoot me a pm I just did my clutch about a week ago so everything is fresh in my mind hahaha.

To OP it literally takes 10 minutes to remove and replace one. There's a bolt on either side of the starter and then there's a signal wire clip and a power wire.

I cannot find mine even with this help. I have removed the undertray but cannot see the shield for the starter anywhere. From the front is it before or after front axle, right or left? Are there any other covers or parts i need to remove to make it visible?

Follow the exhaust down from the turbo. Bingo, starter motor.

I can't see that from underneath. Do I have to remove that black metal plate?

On almost any vehicle, the starter engages the flywheel or flex plate. The flywheel or flex plate lives right behind the engine in the front portion of the bell housing. Follow the engine/bell housing seam around and you will encounter the starter.
