Sloppy Shifter

So my shifter has a lot of play in each gear. I've already changed the bushings under the hood. Is it the bushings under the the actual car where the shift rods are?

Shift rods? There are rubber bushings on the shifter base and the linkages. The shifter itself is connected by the two cables directly to the transmission through the firewall. There is no 'under the car' stuff.

So what do you think could be the main reason for my shifter having so much play?

The springs on the shifter assembly could be worn or fatigued. Lots of small things can contribute to that .
