What is an Underhood Bushing

I asked this question in the shifter thread (https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...threadid=64915) twice with no results. So I am making a separate thread asking what an underhood bushing is.

This term is not very descriptive. There are many bushings under the hood. I know what a shifter bushing is, a motormount bushing, swey bar bushing and so on.

But could someone tell me what an underhood bushing is, where it is located and what it bushes

Thanks.

Do search: "underhood bushing"

Ignore your post and go to the "Notchy shifting GONE" post...pics and descriptions and all.

The "Notchy shifting GONE" thread is the referenced above in my original post. I saw the pics. The pics show the shifter bushings - which is easily understood by me.

What I want to know is the definition of the term "underhood bushings". Is that all the bushings under the hood (bonnet?), including the shifter bushings, the motor mounts, the swey bar bshings, the strut bushings, the steering rack bushings, etc. or just another name for shifter bushings?

With this you just get two metal bushings. One smaller one for the forward shift linkage and one larger for the reverse shift linkage. It all has to do with the shifting and nothing else. Heres a picture of those bushings.

Thanks Reignman. So the "Underhood bushings" are actually the shifter linkage bushings.

I guess the question is who came up with this unpercise term - why not call it shifter linkage bushings in the first place?

I agree it is a vague term.

For the very ****, I guess they should be referred to an a set of 15/16" under-hood machined brass shifter linkage bushings for 2003/04 Mitsubishi Evolution VIII.

I think they are called that because Lancershop.com called them that

They have not been formaly deemed "the underhood bushings". The gentelman that started the thread called them that to generaly define what bushings he was replacing. As opposed to the "shifter base bushings".
Just so people would know which ones he was replacing.
They are technically linkage bushings.

Because "shifter linkage bushings" usually refer to the bushings in the interior of the car at or near the shifter (which can also be upgraded) not the bushings under the hood (engine compartment). Seems pretty logical to me
