Picked up my abandoned 8 MR that was sitting 4 years, and had some electrical issues. One of them being the turn signal not working correctly. When I turned it on, it would briefly flash once or twice then stop working. I was looking at replacements or going to local junk yard but thought there has to be an easier way and I enjoy fixing things so I gave it go. After I cleaned out inside of the switch and plugged it in, it works flawlessly again. So most people probably don't need a new switch if theres is slow, or erratic slow/fast blinking. Hope this helps someone out on a higher mileage car.
Tool list:
Long phillips screwdriver
Two picks or tiny screwdrivers
Rag
Brake Cleaner (optional)
Dielectric grease

Step 2: Remove airbag and steering wheel. Place the airbag on passenger floor board, roof, underneath vehicle, with deploying side up. (Youtube and these forums have resources on that)
Step 3: Remove upper and lower steering column covers
Step 4: Remove turn signal switch, by unplugging connector.
Step 5: Take apart switch using two picks or tiny screw drivers and gently pry on tables to disassemble
Step 6: Use brake cleaner and/or a rag to clean grease inside switch
Step 7: Use a pick to scrape, or small wire type brush (small bore brush works well) to clean the copper contact areas within the switch
Step 8: Lube contact areas with dielectric grease and reassemble
Step 9: Reinstall negative battery cable plug in connector, turn on ignition to test the switches functionality.
Step 10: If switch works fine, reassemble everything in reverse order.
Step 11: If it doesn't work, say a curse word or two, have an adult beverage and buy a new switch. Steering wheel and airbag removed Remove two small phillip screws on switch Degrease and scrape clean these areas, then relube Enlarged view of main switch body
