Guide to Installing a Fire Extinguisher

Today I mounted an Amerex 2.5 lb Purple K fire extinguisher in my car using a universal seat bracket called The Bracketeer. I purchased both on Amazon. I paid $66 for the fire extinguisher and $60 for The Bracketeer.

The install is very straightforward. I'm more making this post to show that there is an easy way to mount a fire extinguisher in the car.

The Bracketeer came with everything needed to assemble and install it into the car. The fire extinguisher came with its own bracket that mounted to The Bracketeer.

The nuts that secure the seat rails to the floorboard are just small enough to fit on The Bracketeer.

The stock seat brackets have a raised lip that prevents The Bracketeer from sitting fully flush against the seat bracket. The Bracketeer was only raised 1-2mm due to contacting the lip on the seat bracket, which was not a problem. I was still able to securely tighten down The Bracketeer.

I test fit the fire extinguisher and found that the bracket needed to be shifted away from the transmission tunnel. The transmission tunnel is slanted and the handle of the fire extinguisher was contacting the transmission tunnel. The Bracketeer offers plenty of adjustability to ensure the fire extinguisher fits.

The fire extinguisher does not get in the way of sliding the seat forward all the way. This picture was taken with the passenger seat slid all the way forward. There is plenty of clearance. The fire extinguisher also clears my thick rubber floor mats.

The fire extinguisher bracket has two followers that sit just below the nozzle and prevent the extinguisher from moving. The latch on the clamp on the body of the extinguisher is very easy to flip and reset.
