Cabin Air Filter

Time: < 30min.

Parts:
2pc. - Self tapping screws 5x14
1pc. - Cabin air filter #MN185231 http://www.mitsubishiparts.net/cart/?pn=mn185231

-Remove the glove box and locate the blower box. '03 models were not equipped with cabin air filters and there is a panel that can be cut inorder to fit a cabin filter. If your car already has filter in place you can simply replace it if neccessary.

-Simply follow the groove of the panel to be removed for the filter with a X-Acto blade.
-Remove the panel.
-Clean any dirt or dust in the blower housing and insert the cabin air filter.
-Secure the cabin filter with 2 tapping screws.

I don't know of an optional aftermarket filter besides the OEM.
Prices range from $53 to $90 depending on the dealerships.

i don't think u want to be breathing in a K&N filter... that thing doesn't filter small enough particles not to mention you will be smelling that nasty thing too

I just ordered a OEM filter I hope i'm not getting that white one, I want the Charcoal filter

Full Parts List

Here is the full parts list including the screws,
2pc. - Self tapping screws P/N MF453032
1pc. - Cabin air filter P/N MN185231
Don Jacobs Mitsubishi offers the filter for $50.10 and the screws for 0.70, or $50.80 plus shipping.

To date this dealer has beaten all others on price and delivery. My suggestion is to get a quote from them when you are shopping Mitsubishi parts. (FYI - I have no connection with the dealer.)

Activated Charcoal Filter

On another note I went to Home Depot and purchased bulk (cut to fit) activated charcoal material. Cut the material the size of the filter and lay it over the top of the Mitsubishi filter material.

With only a little care you can slip the assembly into the Evo's air box. Thus for $5 in material I have sufficient material to last many years.

I was wondering If I could just goto home depot and buy the bulk sheet of filter, cut it out, and just tap it? I think I'm going to try this cause I'm broke as a joke.

If you go this route get some chicken wire (or something similar) to put between the filter and the blower inlet to prevent sucking the filter into the blower.

You will also need to fabricate a cover for the blower box. This would be simple to cut out of a sheet of thin material.

Luckily the filter I bought came with wire on it.

I used flexible duct tape to cover the blower box and it works great.

And I put my air freshener pad on top of the filter so the air blown out smells oh so sweet!
It cost about 16 dollars for the 3M filter but this mod was well worth it! btw the filter I cut out was about 9inx9in and it fit pretty snug.
