model of my brother's rally car...
One of my friends at school also has an sti, and I love it! Its almost impossible to choose between the two. For an everyday driver the sti is probably better since its ride is a touch softer, and its interior is little bit up scale. The powerband is also more linear than the evos, so it makes for easier/ smoother power delivery. I personaly think the evo looks better, feels a little sportier, and has more interior space(im 6'5"). Whatever you choose you cant go wrong with either of them
. BTW do you go to UConn or do you just live nearby?
Nick,
My wife is a grad student at UCONN. I work for a software company... We live about 5 miles from campus. How about you, are you a student?
I prefer the looks of the EVO better myself as well, and I really loved the go-kart feel when I test drove it. Power seemed great, not too laggy. My wife has a WRX, and I hated the thing at first! A lot of lag, nothing under 4K! My wife even compains about it. However, it handles fairly well (brakes are very unimpressive though). I wanted to get your impressions in the lag and power delivery, which you did, so thanks.
For the record, my brother is telling me to get an EVO because the engine will take a lot of mods before you can break it, he thinks the block is fairly bullet-proof and definitely easier to work on than the boxer config of the STI. He also has seen from the rallying scene that a lot of STI/WRX racers go through gear boxes and transmissions (diffs, etc) quite a bit. He's had his EVO for over a year and has at least 9 rallies on it without any major issues (except a bad contact on the anti lag system...which is not mitsu-made anyways). He just took it in for service at a specialized shop in Belgium and everything checked out OK... So, I am going to with what feels best, if only the local subaru dealerships will let me test drive an STI before I pick the EVO...
Thanks for your input.
PS: any problems/issues/pet peeves with your car so far?

Nope not realy any complaints except for the high maintenance costs such as tires, brakes etc..... But im sure the sti is just as expensive to maintane. Im realy suprised that they wont let you test drive an sti considering that you drive a wrx. Its usualy the mitsu dealers that wont let you test drive cars lol.
BTW i am a student at Uconn, here is a link to our website www.uconncarclub.com

Yup,
Mitsu wouldn't let me test drive either... I got to drive a used yellow EVO that was for sale at Champagne Chevrolet. They were nice enough to let me drive it, but when I checked carfax, it did not match their story about the car... So, I went the safe route and decided to wait.
Subaru would barely let me sit in the thing! I have to admit that if I can't test drive an STI through a dealership, I will forget about it altogether...
Nice website by the way. I didn't know there were so many nice cars around campus.

ummm...i think at this point its safe to say you guys should just use PMs lol.
But Steph, very well done on that model. Once my car's exterior is finished, I would like to have you do a model of it also. All expenses convered =) I just hope your still doing this after Winter.

Hi binsquared,
You're right, we should probably PM...
Let me know when and I will build your EVO for you. I will be out of the country for 3weeks in Dec/Jan, as I am going to Australia on vacation. However, I should have plenty of time to work on it once I get back, as winter in the north east offers some long evenings by the fire...
When you are ready, just remind me of the thread offer in an email using the address mentioned below:
stephanemarty@hotmail.com
PS: send pics of your car when it's done so I can get an idea of what you want. Also, if you want to order models online, go check the following site http://www.hlj.com . It is a japanese site with an incredible inventory and very good prices (about $10.00 cheaper per model).
Cheers,
Stephane
