im looking to do the same, iwas going the powder coating route, i called up a local shop (tampa,fl) and they want $400+ and i had to remove the tires and weights, just seemed kinda expensive. but im guessing if i paint them i still have to take off the tires?

I had my ZR-1 rims for my GMC Typhoon powdercoated in blackchrome which cost $300 to do. I spent $20 to paint these, do the math.

Do you have any pics of this? I wanted to see this graphite gray on an evo.

Thanks!

Paint - not powdercoat. The OE rims are base and clear coated.

I had a body shop friend paint mine for me.

yea just paint them because 400+ is wayyy too much just to make your stock rims a different color.

ah, yes the paint the wheels idea. I did this awhile back. Tried green, then blue, then I finally powdercoated black. You can use index cards as stated above and apply 2-3 coats, then do a couple coats of clear. As for the longevity, I do not know as mine didnt stay that way for very long. $400 for powdercoating is expensive. I ended up paying $45 a wheel to include the sand blasting.

i painted mine as well. Paint is holding up good, i just couldnt see spending the money on powdercoat. The shops here want 75 a wheel plus 25 a wheel to prep then add 50 a wheel to dismount-mount tires=600 for stock wheels was just too much for me!
