best way is to burn if off. torch it. then while the plastic is hot, clean it off with brillo pad or something similar.

Hey all I was able to clean the melted plastic off the midpipe using the putty knife but its all scratched up now. I assume when I get my Porter Cable polisher I might be able to polish the scratches.

I have one other prob is that I have some solid black gunk tar? on my exhaust can and tip, I dont want to scratch that part because I will be installing it along with my IX bumper with the next couple of days. Im wondering what is the strongest liquid solution I can buy that wont harm the stainless steel but can loosen the harden gunk/tar up so I can use a soft brush to clean it off. I tried simple green and some bug/tar remover to no avail.

BTW I talked to some guy at home depot and he said a torch will turn the SS piping dark/brownish color and advised me not to do it.

a trowel is not waht it's called, can be called a putty knife, or spatula. funny how this went off subject.

anyway, go drive around so it heats up and get under there with some gloves and scrape it off or use some sandpaper.

for the guy that said if you heat it up it will turn brownish have you looked at your pipes lately, they are prob alreasy a little discolored. i'm pretty sure that after a few heat cycles all ss piping will change color.

A little yea but most of it is nice and shiny, when I have time I will polish it real good, might as well since I paid so much for it in 2003

But about that cleaning solution, any suggestions? This is for the exhaust cannister and the tip
