Wow, first time I've seen anyone do it themselves for a LONG time.

I did mine myself way back when. It turned out really well.

The tails are a *****. I wouldn't recommend trying them on your own. I did it and it worked and all, but I went wrong somewhere. One eventually started fogging up and now there's a little dust in it.

^It's not the same, flexible adhesive. The tails are glued together in a completely different fashion. I attempted my tails yesterday, but abandoned the project prior to breaking them. It would look sweet when they're done, but it's hard. I, too, have opened my headlights to remove the amber inserts. It's not hard...just take your time. I was baking at 300 for 5 minutes. Does the trick. I have them open again today and am painting mine black as we speak. I'll post pics when I'm done.

Do you have to use any special kind of paint or can you just use the regular off the shelf stuff from autozone or whatever? Also I'm curious if anyone recommends a flat or shiny type of black. I have some flat black in the garage that I bought from pep boys that I think would work fine.

thanks for the responses thus far.

I use 500 degree semi-gloss paint, sprayed on after a few times of sanding and prep with denatured alchohol. And yes you can buy it off the shelf at autozone. I wouldn't use Shiny black, I would recommend either flat or semi-gloss to suit your style.
