Painted my VIII tails JDM MR style
Well I went for it and was very happy with how they turned out. I had originally painted them VII style but the paint I used wasn't real transparent so at night the lights appeared kind of blurry. It bugged me for a while so I finally scrapped that look and went for the jdm mr style. I read a couple of the how-to's as far as opening the lights up and decided to use the dremel. Worked well but on the first light I cut in a little to deep on the top and went through the chrome housing inside. You can't really tell since its black now and it shadows the cut I made so I'm not worried about it. I learned from that one and the second one came out great. If anyones interested in the amber paint I used and the process of applying it, let me know. I'll explain that portion better with pics of the paint etc. Overall I'm very happy with how they turned out and how they look on the car. The Evo is tarmac black btw. I'll have pics of them on the car soon. Let me know what you think.

There's a how-to somewhere on here that I followed somewhat. I believe he used a heat gun to open them up but I've seen others that have used a dremel. What I did was cut around the entire housing just behind the black glue. That way when you pull it apart, the glue stays stuck to the back of the clear lense. This looks much nicer when you put it all back together. You may have seen in other pics where people have had to paint the trim around the lense. If you've searched and read the other threads, you'll know what I'm talking about. Then I just used some black silicone sealant to put them back together. I actually used a glue gun to tack a couple spots to keep it lined up. Made it much easier.
As far as the amber paint, its model master brand. Its called turn signal amber pt# 28004 for around $2 for a 1/2 oz bottle. I bought a cheap airbrush kit for around $20 from a local hobby/model store. Its a Aztek A220. Real easy to use. Comes with everything you need including a can of propellant. I painted the outside of the lense and just masked off everything but the turn signal. A couple light coats and it dries pretty fast. I put it on a little too thick on one of them so it ran slightly in one corner. I'll probably redo that one when I have time. Otherwise you can barely tell it was painted. Looks pretty close to the real deal. I'm sure the paint isn't really made to withstand the elements well so I'll probably put a coat of clear acrylic over it sometime to help protect. Any other questions, let me know and thanks for the compliments.

so wait, u painted the OUTSIDE of the cover? Wouldnt painting it inside be better as it will be sealed and wont have a chance of it rubbing off or scratching the paint off? Or did u do it because it stood out more on the exterior of the cover
