Refinishing Wheels

I recently had new tires put on my OE wheels and the place scratched the living crap out of them. They are now willing to have them repaired but I have no idea where I can get it done. There are no local shops that perform this kind of work. Need help quick evonet. Thanks

I had a tire shop replace one of my Volks after they screwed it up. I'm sure you could get them to replace your messed up wheels if you try hard enough. Seems to me that a tire shop should be good at taking tires off of wheels unless they just opened and have a bunch of newbs working there. It is what the specialize in ya know.

Why should you do without your car while your wheels are out being repaired? I'd make them buy me new ones while I ride on the damaged ones.

Good luck.

so what youre saying is that the only reason that some places scratch the rim is because they dont take the weights off first?

Tire shops aren't gonna scratch you wheels on purpose. The weights usually scratch the rim when they are put on. I have scratches on my wife's Escapes wheels from the original weights on there. When I had my ITR, I had the dealer put my new tires on. When they took off the original wieghts it had scratches on the wheels. I had Acura replace every wheel and made sure that they put the weights on the back of the rim after that.

no i know the weights make scratches. but in my case i have slightly deep gashes in my rim on the outside, and no it wasnt a curb or the weights. my question is if they had taken off the weights it would have prevented me from getting these deeps gashes on the outside lip.

and i didnt complain to my tire dealer because he hooks it up. i got my blizzy lm-22's for close to cost and every time i go back to put the stock tires on he doesnt charge me to mount and balance. so i cant complain, to him at least. sorry had to vent on that last part.

ok i have gashes on all of my rims they are each about 4 inches in length. the tire shop said that it is from the weights, but one of the tire techs they had there told me the guy did not take off the weights. they use a pry bar to get the tire off and on the rim. that is what caught the weight and made 4 inch gashes on each rim.

The machine they hook the tires up to spins the rim and dislocates the tire from the rim (everyone has seen them). That machine should be hooked up to the back of the rim to undo the tire. Some shops hook that up to the from and it scratches the crap out of aftermarket wheels.

I guess shops are so use to OEM wheels w/ hubcaps and not worrying about the outside so much. The weighs on the outside are a bad deal also.

honestly i dont see how u guys are saying the wheel weights cause them to mess up your wheels. What causes it, is someone not knowing what there doing. Any nice wheels are suppose to mount and dismount from the backside of the rim to avoid the face getting messed up. IVe seen so many wheels get messed up my friend use to work at a tire shop the weights have nothing to do with the wheels. YOu may have a mark where the wheel weight was..... but what can u do about that nothing.
Make aure they put the weights on the inside of the wheel using the stick on type

Hey, look into Wheel Wizard... I believe they're here in SC. But I think they're the only you might find (besides something in ATL).

My CE-28N's are a reverse mount wheel. Th face has to go down when mounting the tire. It has a sticker inside the rim.

What damaged your wheel is someone not being careful or they don't have updated equipment. If they are taking bars to pry the tire away from the rim and not using anyhting to keep it from kaing contact that is just being careless. Most machines now days have things to protect the wheels.

They'd still be replacing my wheels or my lawyer would be contacting them.
