Thoughts on mild audio system upgrades for new MR

I know that high-end audio is generally the last thing most people think of with their Evos ... but I'd like to perform a few minor upgrades to enhance my daily driving experience.

So, I'm looking for feedback/ideas on the following options that I've been formulating ...

I currently have an Alpine 9833, Sirius tuner, and ARC Audio KAR 400.4 from my previous car.

Option 1:

Just replace the factory deck with the Alpine unit + Sirius tuner and be done with it

Option 1a:

Do the above but also swap locations with the MR gauges

Option 2:

Option 1 + add in the 4 channel amp that I already have ...

Option 3:

Option 2 + swap out the stock speakers. This is where I definitely need some advice. If I go this route, I'd like a nice set of components for the fronts and possibly replace the rears with small midbass/subs.

I just found these 6.5" subs: new elemental design subs ... anyone familiar with these or other small subs that would work in the rear deck?

And does anyone have experience with good components for the fronts?

Thanks for any thoughts and ideas.

- Josh

you have all this stuff lying around.. rip out the stock system and put in the alpine and arc stuff, its way too good not to. as far as speakers how high end are you looking to go? spend more on the front stage since its whats important.

Just put in the 4 Channel and new speakers....as far and good components, Kicker SS are awesome and cost and arm and a leg, but I also hear alot of good stuff about very high end Polk components.

I think you deserve better equipment because you are such a A/V geek -- do us both a favor and give the "old stuff" to me ....

Josh I was reading that the size opening for the fronts was a bit off and that we will need to build spacers if we are going to put in some nice separates....

Guys I am looking to put in an ipod, do you know if there is an AUX input on the back of 06' MR head units??? Or should I just swap out with a new unit ... (I would rather spend the money on HP ....)

Thanks

cij

I think you can actually buy the 6 3/4 -> 6 1/2 adapters somewhere ... need to find that again. Of course that would be for losers like me that don't have the brilliant fabricating talents and garage full of power tools like you

Unfortunately, cij knows me a bit too well ...

jjm4life - I'm probably willing to part with up to around $300-$400 for a good set of components if I really think they are worth it ... yes, I'm nuts ... I will die poor for sure Any recommendations?

And no one has any experience with those new ED subs? Those seem like a perfect fit for the rear deck as subs in an infinite baffle configuration instead of some big *** and heavy 12s in the trunk with a monstrous box ...

Thanks,
Josh
