C-West front: removal of safety bar?

I just got the C-West front bumper and the body shop called me and said in order for it to fit they would have to severely butcher a front reinforcement safety bar which will make the vehicle less safe from a front impact.

I was wondering has anyone else had this problem with a C-West front bumper? I have a 03 Evo. The body shop said that they would only do this for cash, bc it makes the vehicle unsafe. I mean hell, this kinda worries me.

the beam has to be removed. No way around it. If you hit anything in the front, its probably your fault. So be carefull!!! and enjoy the best bumper on the market....

this is why u have to order a JDM front crash beam. remember, the US spec EVO's are LONGER than the JDM evo due to our federal crash testing rules. The JDM evo is shorter in front & back so when you buy "JDM" parts you can't just slap them on. if you were to look at your car from the side, the tip of the spoiler going str8 down would line up to the JDM rear bumper. if you also notice, the C-West bumper doesn not stick out as far as the stock 1 if you line them up together. go to HK's (hong kong) website & order the right part...

also remember, that if you are in a frontal crash & the ins comapny sees that the crash beam has been tampered with, THEY DO NOT HAVE TO HONOR YOUR CLAIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

Lol shoulda searched man. And I doubt even a jdm front crash beam will work w/the c-west bumper.

Almost everybody that has the c-west front bumper has to completely remove the stock crash beam.

I did too when I had my c-west bumper.

Ok, just got back from the body shop. They are going to cut into the front crash beam, basically about 3/4 of it off. Hopefully I won't get into a front impact soon.

Do any of you had problems with the bottom flapping around? I noticed how light the bumper is and they said there is no bottom support (I'm not buying the C-West wind damper), so they are going to fabricate some stuff to make it not flex.

They held it up and damn that thing looks hot!

ok i had the body kit. but i hit it against a curb and smashed it to pieces. anyways litarally it is a 5mph crash beam. it is only there to support the bumper in parking lot bumps. but who the hell is going to get hurt or die at 5mph in a parking lot. (highly unlikely). i dont see how they can even butcher it. i had to completely remove it. i never got in a wreck with it but if your going at a high rate of speed and you wreck that beam doesnt help. i took mine off first of all because i smooshed the **** out of the beam at a 30 mph wreck with the stock bumper 3 months into having the car. if you get into an accident thats higher than 20 mph's your going to hurt much more than the beam. for me it did more damage than good. and if you get the full body kit..... say goodbye to the rear crash beam as well...lol.
