Alexander's Perspective: Evolution X Concept @ NYIAS 2006
Dont get me wrong, the pics are amazing!
but this X Concept just doesnt say "EVO" to me....
take the wing and other random stuff off and you would have a futuristic Galant...Id be happier to see it stripped and ending up looking like a futurustic Lancer if you know what I mean.

Spotted some extra lines, here and there, your pics definitely help improve on the mental 3D image, I have liked this version of the concept X as soon as I saw it.
Production version:
Probably will not have 20 inch rims, and it won't be sporting the 6 pot calipers, maybe on the front but not on the rear, rear will probably have 2 pots, possibly 4 max, it will maybe have 18 inch rims, 1 inch more than the standard 17 inch Enkei and BBS rims we have on the VII, VIII and IX's,
Headlights and taillights will probably change, a little. they definitely will for the US cause of DOT requirements. Those taillights I have to agree, have got to go.
and so does that Gas cap, they could have come up with something better than that, that takes from the design lines.
Rear bumper we will have to wait and see, there is no telling on how the sub frame construction is, whether the US will keep that design, hopefully by now they have got it figured out, and that will be the final bumper design.
Overall though I like it more, the more I look at it.
But Final judgement will be made when they release a production vehicle photo.

And if Evo X will have a dual exhaust pipes like the concept has I tend to believe, it will have one VERY powerful and highly compressed 2.0l - 2.4l engine (320-340HP). Actually in Europe you can buy 340HP versions of Evo IX now, so I wouldn't be surprised if Mitsu would find a way to put out that much power and yet meet all the regulations in USA.

The thing is, every evo to date share a ‘look’ that is very particular to them (and Stis). Their forms follow their function (and what a function it is) and everything that is there, is there to make the car go quicker, stop quicker and turn sharper. They look good in the way that WRC cars look good, but not in the same way that the Gullwing Mercedes look breath taking. Evo’s are more Samsonite than Loius Vuitton. More Michelle Rodriguez than Kiera Knightley.
And herein lies the problem IMO. Just as the very beautiful Kiera will look rather silly starring in “Girl Fight”, Miss Rodriguez would hardly fit in “Pride and Prejudice”. With the X, there are just too many intricate, non functional parts, too many ‘cup holder’ items that betray the essence of the evo – it’s almost as if they’re trying to make it more of a 350Z. This doesn’t make the X a worse or uglier car than the IX, but it just makes it less of an evo. I think things are looking a little too ‘designer’ with the X – specially with some of the earlier released interior shots. Even the exterior is looking a little too futuristic – very handsome, but one normally associates evo’s with rally wins not with i-Robot.
To me, the X is a very nice car and I’m sure it will be fast. But park every 911 model in a line and you can see the lineage. Do the same with the evo and you get close – without the X. If the version they bring out is exactly the same as the pictures we’ve seen, I’d be happy and would want one. But it would be a little sad that true evo line has ended. The X is a nice car, I just don’t think it’s an Evo.
Anyway, a rose, by any other name...
