Painting the Car Need Assistance

Here is the paint Im going to use, specifically the Silver Sled

http://www.kustomshop.com/scripts/de...gm=ksflatz.bbx

I have a urethane front bumper, fiberglass side skirts and rear bumper.

What I need to do, if I remember correctly is:

Wash the car.

Degrease the Car

Sand the car with 220 grit sand paper

Fill all dents with RAGE GOLD body filler

Sand with 600 grit sand paper

I need to know what kind of primer to use, then what to sand it with and procedure to use.

Spray the car with the paint, fixing any runs with sanding and repainting.

I have a guy coming who has painted before...but I need to know what type of flex agent to use, primer, sanding etc etc.

I understand the negatives that people will associate with this. The car cant look any worse than it already does.

I have some experience with body work....so thanks for the warnings, but your guidance will be more helpful than your warnings.

i would ask the painter all the ?s u got because as a painter myself i am very picky with the way the car is setup to paint
with the primer i would use the primer that kustom shop recommends it will make the paint stick better if they do make primer

um..i dont think you need to sand your whole car with 220..thats a little rough! Youd probably need around ~600 and a good wetsand. But where there are dents...i would youse a coarse grit because your appling body filler

cool, all good advice.

Sanding with 220 is a bit rough, but Im talkin about pre body filler....doesnt the surface need to be sanded down for the primer to stick to it?

I emailed Kustom for a list of recomended stuff and procured a spray gun, got a filter for the air line for my compressor and some drop clothes.

Im working on a ducting system so I can hook up a pair of shop vacs with filters to suck air out of my work area or "clean room"

LOL, it'll be a room with drip clothes....

I have painted many cars in my gararge/shop..

when you want to fix the dent feather with 180 then spot prime with a good 2 part primer . such as PPG K-36 . That stuff is like like bondo in a can but way better , 400 -600 wet sand the primer and the whole car. Then you should be ready to seal the car with a good sealer Such as PPG DP-48 white epoxy primer.

Then you can have fun painting !

OK I got that part...PPG-K-36 spot primer.....but before I spray the whole car, do I need to sand it down completely, score it up or just spray primer over factory?

I think I know the answer, Im just askin to be sure.

Are you planning on priming the whole car? if not DO NOT sand the whole car with 220. Just scuff the surface silver hides sand scratches to a point id use 400 grit or 600 to scuff the whole car before paint use a red 3m scotch brite to get in all the hard to get areas. Hopefully your guy is experienced you dont want your car coming out like a metallic zebra

heres a few threads of my car that i repainted i have more in progress pics if youd like
Freshly painted
new pics

Any questions pm me

awesome advice brother...awesome. Hes pretty good but I wanna be proficient on the car.

Just the same, sand with 600 to scuff, prime the car, wet sand with 600...paint.

Because its satin, I have to find if I should clear or not...if so...after i clear, should I sand and buff it?

lay at least 3 coats of clear wetsand with 1500 to 2000 grit easy on the edges or you will burn through. buf using "3m perfect it"compound and glaze it with a buffing wheel
