on my lancer trunk I used vinyl electrical tape on my holes temperary. I was gonna get the holes filled and the whole trunk painted but ended up going cf trunk anyway.

I guess a shop could fill them, paint them and then wet sand it. Although it might be easier just to paint the whole thing.

I ditched my wing 6 months ago. I went with a good body shop that was able to weld the holes, and then painted my whole trunk. My trunk is silver, and they said with silver it's difficult to match up and would be best to paint the whole thing. I could of gone the bondo filler route, but over time that will look like garbage.

Hope this helps

Steve

who told you the trunk is aluminum. i'm pretty sure stock trunks are not aluminum. mine is steel. put a magnet on it and see if it sticks.

ding-ding-ding......I can't believe this got to page 2 before anyone even recognized the poster's biggest problem!

Vinyl overlays FTW! Cheap, easy and reversible.

I had a question, can the black plastic pieces that are on both the left and right side of the trunk be removed. I tried removing them but they are in there good and dont wanna break them if I want to put the wing back on.

I got some red electric tape from home depot, cut some circles, put them over the holes and it looks good except on the holes with the black pieces. I mean it doesn't look bad but I wish it was flush like the rest of the holes.

you can remove them. use a flat screw driver and pry them off. use a rag to rest the screw driver on and be careful not to scratch the paint or dent the trunk.

actually, the reason they use rivets is because you can't weld aluminum to steel, if you figure out how you'll be a rich man.

The best way to go other then replacing your trunk lid would be to go to someone who knows and has the tools to weld aluminum then have a body shop spray it. Not all body shops have the proper equipment to weld aluminum.

once again, who said the stock evo trunk is aluminum.

it would be very hard to weld aluminum that thin without melting through it.
