Took wing off - How to patch holes???

My local body shop isn't sure how to patch the holes since the truck is aluminum. I definitely like the stealthness of the lack the wing, but the holes are lame. Rubber grommets would be lame, as would bolts. So how can I patch it????

Go to a different shop. A good shop would be able to patch them up. v

Isn't it pretty expensive to cover up the holes at most body shops?

Whats up Lance, Im over on the pirate board as well... Any normal body filler should work on aluminum, but I'd have someone weld them shut first, so it won't crack out... Surely you know someone who can weld that up for ya...

It would be a few hundred dollars because if you did it right, you would have to repaint the whole trunk lid.

You could always get a couple of cut pieces of vinyl overlay (color matched) to cover the holes. It is what I am doing this winter, going wingless. Epecially if you ever want to use your spoiler again. It doesn;t look factory, but you can;t notice the overlays until you are right up to it. It was my most creative and inexpensive solution to cover the holes without body/paint work and or a new trunklid. Good luck

it's not very easy to weld aluminum. that's why the MR roof is attatched to the body with rivets. any good body shop should be able to use body filler or something to patch the holes tho. personally i'd just get another trunk, go cf, or put the wing back on.

Either body filler and sand / repaint.. But then you're looking to have your whole trunk repainted to guarantee a match. You may as well look for a Lancer trunk lid and have the repainted instead to match your car. Or just use vinyl tape if it isn't a show car.

I used white vinyl. I was able to get a shade of white that matches the wicked white perfectly. You can only see the vinyl if you really look.

The other alternative is to find a Lancer/Evo trunk from a wrecked car at the junkyard. They only run $150-300 bucks and then you can just swap trunks. That will be cheaper than the labor at a shop and you won't have to take your wing off and deal with that tape that does not want to come off.
