car wash/wax question for Apt peeps

I'm at an apartment complex with no hose nor do i have a garage. Where do you guys wax your car? I was told by one guy to drive to the DIY (10 mins away), wash it, and drive back to the complex and wax. Is that a good idea?

Sure thing, I do that..

Make sure you get all the grime off of it, a short drive just helps dry it.. or if you can dry it before you leave that works too. Wax in the shade if you can find any...

I agree with ^jdm.

A friend's house is the best choice.

Best thing to do is wash it, shammy it. drive back to the apt. Then take a car duster and go over the car just to get the dust off, then wax. This would be almost fool proof.

Buy some optimum no rinse wash, it doesn't require as much water.

^Good advice. It's what I do, only my nearest DIY is a block away.

^Precautionary steps like these would help since you've got a 10 min. drive between wash and wax.

I'm not sure I understand how this helps the original poster.... he never claimed "shortage of water" as an issue. ....just a lack of a hose/water source near home.

Not sure if you're on a budget but a wash and quick wax at a hand car wash is @ $30- $50 bucks. You do that once a month and between them just use some quick detailer after every car wash.

I've been detailing cars for a good 8 years now and the california duster will scratch your car. Any dirt that sticks to your paint surface on the drive back needs to be washed off with a proper lubricant. The duster will just drag that dust on your paints surface (even just feathering the surface.)

Kinda sounds like a shortage of water if he doesn't have a hose/water source

Listen, go to the carwash strapped. What I do is bring all my stuff with me. I bring wax, wheel cleaner, tire shine, the whole nine yards. Wheel cleaner before the DIY, drive in, wash, dry, and then pull out of the wash vaccum and wax right there. This is fool proof just as though you were washing in your driveway. I've done this with 4 of the 9 new cars I've owned in the past 5 years it works. No one says anything either. And thats that.
