The APPARENTLY infamous Evo vs. C6 Vette SHOT..
Tsurara,
Yeah, research should be done. Especially on a forum where most responses say "use the search button"... However you do have to look at both cars in the same light. If you're looking at buying a vette, you're more than likely not interested in Evos, wrx/sti's. And same for evo owners.
Why? That is quite simple, two different price ranges. It is PRETTY safe to say that most can't afford owning a vette, myself included. The price tag is significantly higher, insurance is a good bit more also maintaining the car is just as expensive, if not more expensive. These vettes do eat tires like it is no one's business.
Secondly, as one member pointed out. The american cars are made more so for straight line activities. However they are no slouches when it comes to handling. Same goes for the evo, the car was not intended for straight line use. However look at the members, how many 450+ whp evo guys are out there? The point is, while we are not made for straight lines, we mod our cars to do very well in that area. Where the vettes are pretty good in a straight line, they do their modding in suspension. Atleast a good bit do.
In conclusion, the picture is hilarious. Sucks that it turned into people comparing apples to oranges.

Lastly, I will say that the Corvette has to do absolutely nothing to it's suspension in stock form to outhandle most cars on the track. Hell, most modified cars can't run a 58 second lap at Limerock. That can be done in a stock C6, I'd hate to see what a Z06 can do. The best stock lap at Limerock I have seen in a stock Evo/STi is a 1:02, maybe a high 1:01.

you posted this but yet you have a 9 MR??maybe your the one who is gay???maybe?you think?get off the vettes DICK!

I wouldn't assume it's safe to say that people who are spending 36,000$ on the MR edition can't spend the additional money on a Corvette. Certainly with some of these "mod lists" one could easily make up the difference. I don't buy it at all, most people shopping a 30,000$+ car aren't hurting for cash, except for the irresponsible ones.

People aren't cross shopping them because of price, they aren't cross shopping them because the cars are targeted to two different demographics. A Corvette also has a broader appeal, mostly due to heritage, that the Evo does not (yet) have in this country.

Yeah i am with you. There are definitely those who can afford a C6 as well, also i think the other factor is family. Some of these evo guys are very young, already have a good strong relationship and a kid. I don't think the vette is a "child friendly" car. The evo offers a pretty good balance between sport and family.
I think the BIGGEST difference between the 2 cars is the stereotype that comes along with them. You're also paying for image when buying the vette as well.
Also i think it is safe to say that there are NO american cars under 100K that can give the z06 a problem. Now that might change when the new Viper Coupe comes out, however i have a feeling that thing might be in the 110k range.
Just for reference, Chris (my business partner) has a 05 GTO. Let me tell you something, even at 38xxlb that car can handle. It appears that GM has put their foot in the door to a well balanced car.
You're making me sad. I drive the 05 GTO all the time, and i want to get rid of my car!

I'd be tempted also if my Evo was actually sellable

I'll be watching that battle for sure, I am also interested to see if the "Blue Devil" Vette makes it to production, that will give the Viper a run for it's money, although the C6 Z06 is a really great car and may put up a better fight than we think.
The GTO is also a very solid car, the interior rocks and it's fast as hell (not to mention cheap!). My only complaint is it needs bigger rear wheels/tires from the factory. Real solid otherwise.

The "blue devil" is going by the z07 from my understanding, road and track or one of those mags had a article on it maybe a few weeks back. I forget sorry. I think the z06 might have renewed the old muscle wars. However looks like Ford is dragging some tail, and yes i am aware of the GT500...
As for the goat, yeah it should have bigger tires but hey that is what tire rack is for i guess. We have a Corsa exhaust on the way, so i am excited for that.
For the price section, you're right. These are very cheap. I believe we paid under 28k for it. Can't complain we get... LS2, great interior, classy looks.
Steve
I like my GTO, nice interior, ride, power after simple bolt ons is amazing. I'm not really happy about how it shifts. The handling isn't there. So, in Jan its going bye bye for a Blue M6 C6. I love my Evo. I'm trying to sell my Integra to pick up a WW RS for the track as my MR is used for daily.

. You are also right about the "family friendliness" of the EVO. The C6 is definitely *not* a family car. The thing is that most of the time I was driving alone in my EVO. My wife and family/friends just don't cotton to my predilection for fast, powerful, loud, harsh riding cars
I got the C6 and achieved 2 goals. I still have a "top down" experience with a hard roof car. I get a massively high performance car with great looks and let's face it, the Vette has cache.... The stereotype of the Vette is that it's and old guy's car. It's probably true. After all I'm a pretty old guy
. The EVO also suffers from a stereotype. It's considered a kids car, boy racer type of thing. The cops are always looking for you and lots of "grown-ups" raise their eyebrows when they find out I drove the EVOs... Oh yeah, I'm also finding out that lots more people just love the Corvette. Everyone in my office went gah gah when I showed up in it. The EVO only made an impression on a couple of the young guys who are also gear heads....
