Installed CF hood/trunk (lawl 56k)

Bought from 05r6 and installed with his help last night. These are some quality pieces. They're the ones you see sold on Robispec's website, made by Fiber Images.

100% Carbon Fiber. I swear the hood is light enough to be used as a kite, if you had some string and a little wind. If you've been thinking about getting a CF hood or trunk or both, definitely go with these.

and yes, the car is filthy.

I've heard there is not much weight savings with CF hoods over the aluminum stockers, unless you get a dry carbon one.... have you weighed it compared to your stocker? Whats the weight savings?

I wasn't able to weigh it last night, as we had no scale and were trying to finish before the rain hit, but I assure you both pieces are lighter than their factory counterparts.

edit: We can probably find out from Robi, since he markets them

i'm also curious as to the actual weight savings... the stock is pretty damn light.

hey looks real good I'm planning on putting a cf trunk on my Evo IX SE same color as urs. I'm guessing the trunk came with the holes to attach the wing???

Looking at Robi's site, it's showing the hood weighing 11lbs and the trunk at 7lbs, though mine are etched with 'Fiber Images,' instead of 'Downforce Composite,' the original purchase was made through Robi so I can only assume they're the same products.

Factory hood is ~20 or 21lbs. Trunk is around the same, if I remember right. If he sees this thread perhaps he could chime in.

the factory hood is about 14~15lbs. i weighed mine when i replaced it with the Seibon carbon hood. the seibon piece is almost the exact same weight. as for the trunk, the stock trunk is about 30lbs or more, with the seibon trunk coming in at 12.5lbs. i've ditched the Seibon trunk in favor of a Chargespeed unit. the Chargespeed trunk is lighter, but i didn't get a chance to weigh it before it went on. the Chargespeed trunk is close to what Robi's are. the weave is perfect 1x1...badass. i'll be going with a Chargespeed hood soon to match the trunk, and the 1x1 on the ralliart lip and stock wing.

question...is the robi hood 1x1 or 2x2 weave?

I was using Buschur's site as a reference for the factory weight:

A carbon fiber hood is HEAVIER than your stock hood. Our stock hood weighed 20.2 lbs. and the carbon fiber hood that we purchased but never installed was 21.6 lbs.

I think the weave is 1x1, but I can't be sure. (Truth be known, I don't think I could tell the difference without it being pointed out to me first). I'll snap a close-up shot after I get home tonight. I know the weave is 'larger' than what is on the wing ;p

I'll also do some under-side shots of the hood and trunk.

The hood/trunk are the lightest CF parts you can buy for the evo, Seibon hoods are ridiculously heavy almost identicle to that of the stock one's.

Hope you like em Saev ima miss em!

Yea, right on the top of the hood between the washer nozzles.

Same thing on the lower right hand side of the trunk (You can just barely make it out in one of my trunk shots).

They're great so far. Still need to hit up Home Depot or something to get some brackets for the hood vent.

and it needs to get nice so I can wash the damned thing

cool- doesnt sound like a whole lot of weight savings on the hood then, but the trunk could shed quite a few pounds! I really like the way CF hoods/trunks look, and I would love to have them both on my car.... kind of poor these days oh well-someday!
