I'm gonna add to the discussion about the cheap interior bit. I have a 1973 914, and it was easy to get 911-quality interior pieces from the aftermarket. I'd like to cover or replace the 2-piece plastic steering column shroud (even with 1-piece plastic!). I don't mind the dash and gauges (or door handles), but upgrades to the inside door inserts and handles would make a difference. That's the stuff people see after you're done scaring them with the performance. It may take a while for something like this to show up, but stuff is out there for other marques.
