Racing Seat

Just for those that are interested...

I've had my Evo for 4 years now since I bought it in May 2003. The back of the stock seat just recently cracked (irreperably so and I'm out of warranty) and I decided to get a replacement. Since I use this mostly for Weekends and AutoX I decided to get just the driver's seat replaced and save a little money.

Being "Husky" I searched for a good large sized racing seat and found it in the Recaro Profi SPG XL. It took a acouple of days to install it myself but it was a great weekend project.

It is amazing how a good racing seat can keep you locked down so you can concentrate on driving and not be worried about sliding around your seat. If anyone wants a good "performance" mod this should be one to consider. Last week I went up to The Tail of the Dragon and ran it in total comfort and security. I can't wait to take it out to the AutoX and see what kind of a difference it makes.

There is a downside to this as getting in and out of the seat can be a pain in the "assets" but you get used to it quickly.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this...

How big are you and how comfortable is the seat? Do you think if you got the regular seat and not the xl that it would be too uncomfortable?

I'm 6'2" and 320 Lbs (I've actually lost weight ) The seat is snug but comfortable. I spent 8 or more hours from Miami, Florida to Fontana Village, North Carolina in the seat with no discomfort to speak of.

I had ordered the Recaro Profi SPG XL seat after measuring my A$$ and checking the seating size charts Recaro and many other manufacturers put out. But the vendor said he was out and suggested the Sparco Evo 2 Plus. So they sent it to me. But I could not even get into that seat so I sent it back and insisted on the Recaro Profi SPG XL. (Which they just happened to get one in that same day that I insisted.)

Looking back on the whole purchasing experience what I would do is to get a yardstick and measure your A$$ from side to side and then go look at the sizing chart for Recaro. I'll find the links tonight. Then insist on the seat you want based on the size of your butt.

To make a long story short (too late, I know) I know that I would not fit in the non-XL seat. But the XL is just perfect for me. The wings on the side even do a great job of holding your shoulders in place during hard cornering but it does take a while to get used to that just because I am not used to having anything at shoulder level.

HAHAHA Not much, see Above!!! Just got back from North Carolina this last weekend... Ran the Dragon, went Honky Tonkin in Nashville. The racing seat really helped during the run at the Dragon. It really kept me in place while taking those corners. When is the next meet at Dennys? I might go.

Looks like were about the same size.
What seat brackets did you use? or basically what else did you have to buy for the seat to mount?

I got the whole shebang from Speedwaremotorsports. I needed the Seat, Sidemounts and Rails. I adapted the whole thing to the stock brackets. Very minor cutting needed. The whole thing came out to ~$1100. I would need to check with the bank to be sure.

Here is the link to where I got mine. I hope the mods don't delete this or something.

Anyway it makes for a good weekend project. It was my first seat install and I treated it like a jigsaw puzzle. Kinda neat. If you are not handy though find someone to install it for you.
